We even watched The Descendants together recently, and I was able to take it for what it was and enjoy it. In an effort to help Cal get over his wife and start living his life, Jacob opens Cal's eyes to the many options before him: flirty women, manly drinks and a sense of style that can't be found at Supercuts or The Gap. Gosling and Carell share terrific chemistry together. Does the movie glamorize this, or is it making a statement about such trickery? I think it was 9 or so women he nailed. The major characters all persevere in the faith that for every person there is One True Love, and when you meet that person, your quest is at an end — always assuming, of course, that your love is returned. And should I tell you who, exactly, Hannah is? The movie did a good job with that scene, and didn't guarantee they would get back together, but instead showed the combination of possible R with heartbreak.
