The life and times of Joe Munoz
When I was a kid, lots of people spoke Spanish around me. Spanish was the language that the adults would use when they wanted to say things that perhaps the kids shouldn't bother to be aware of. For example, if Mom had a bad day at work, that was something shared between the adults in English. But if my uncle's mistress had been discovered, well, that was something that was going to be discussed in Spanish. I'm 4th generation Mexican American. I consider myself honorary Tawainese by virtue of having had to compete...
I'll keep this short. This year was not a great year for me. The best thing I can say about it though is that I made it through it and I still have lots of family and friends and love. So I'm thankful for that. Oh, and I still have a job. So I'm thankful for that as well even if it keeps me from my hobbies in a major way. As technically I have (almost exactly) 24-hours left to go in this year, I'm going to try to write up reviews for as many albums as I can that have been on my list of stuff to review until...
I'm losing faith. Things seem dire in this world. First of all, that crappy Sandler movie make a boatload of money. The 99% are pissed off (just not enough to vote, mind you)...and perhaps, most dramatically (because this point is definitely not the most important of things going on the world) yours truly has failed to keep his name out in the internets for sometime time. I have to ask myself, "Self?" to which the self replies, "Yes?", "WTF, Joe!" (when talking to oneself it is often more dramatic to use your...
It's 2:12 in the AM (12 minutes after Cool Calm Pedro's song) and I should be asleep. But nah. How can I have a blog called "esleepy" and be completely rested? That doesn't make sense. The site's not "e-awake" (hmmm...wake up calls via SMS? It's probably been done...ooooh! What about wake up CALLS from the people you like on Facebook at random? You get some celebs, you have them pre-record some calls...map to their Facebook ID's and then randomly select from the user's Facebook likes....hmmm...). (Sorry about...
It's the internet, baby. Who's got time to revise? Bill O'Reily-style, we say, "funk it, we do it live". Hello there, internets! And welcome, all 15 of my followers! I suddenly feel like that RJD2/Copywrite joint "June" We got 15-year old netheads buying garbage Wanting to keep you from their personal private artist Hey, I don't mind being your person private blogger. It means more when the audience is small, right? So I've been thinking about Sonink. Don't I always? Oh, I guess I should say that I...
I'm thinking of that Foster The People song "waste" at the moment where everyday -yeah - you can waste it if you want. In fact, there's often a certain appeal of accomplishing nothing. Lazy Sunday has a certain appeal. But here's the thing, when I waste a day I get frustrated. I can't help it though. I'm Joe Munoz not Joe Machine. Sometimes I wish I were more machine. I work hard. Don't get me wrong. But sometimes I get burned out and just need a reprieve. That's normal. So Sonink2 is out. It hasn't set...
Work hard on things you believe in because YOU believe in them. The fact of the matter is that it's easier to destroy than it is to create. Creation take time and effort. Time and effort that might be lost on your audience of consumers. I've worked my tail off this year on lots of unprofitable pursuits that make me happy to use and that nobody really gives a hoot about. And yet, it's still pleasurable to have worked on those things. So no, it doesn't bother me all that much that folks aren't enamored of the...
I guess if you aren't scared to fail, you aren't trying. Well, I'm terrified. But lord knows that I tried. I had to back it up with a nice up front sacrifice to Amazon Webservices. But here it is. My work. So far. In all of it's imperfect glory. I keep stressing this, and I think it's important. At least for me: I had NO HELP on this. This is me. 100% writing code. Backend, frontend, UI design...feature planning. I bore 100% of the technical burden on this. That means that if it's not perfect, it's...
What up y'all! So might have noticed all the reposts from Sonink here. There's a reason for that. The next version of Sonink is going to be more link-artist focused. Therefore, there are certain types of editorial content that don't make sense to be on the site anymore. For this reason, I'm reposting some of the things that meet that criteria here. So if you've already read them on Sonink, sorry for the spam!
